Our History

BridgeMont Camp and Outdoor Center was chartered in 1969 by the state of Tennessee as a nonprofit summer camp for boys and girls, overseen by the Board of Directors. It was set up primarily as a residential camp in its early years serving churches several weeks during the summer. In the late seventies the camp began to operate as a partner in ministry with the Presbyterian Evangelistic Fellowship, Christian Camping International, serving churches, college groups and inner city ministries.

BridgeMont became involved in wilderness camp experiences in the early 80's, providing youth and adults with backpacking, rafting and bicycling trips in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway and Natchez Trace. At the same time BridgeMont began to build relationships with a variety of inner city ministries to provide their children and youth with a back to basic camping week which would impact them for a lifetime.

During the early 90's it became clear that the camp could operate year round and become a leader in outdoor education. Steps have been made towards upgrading our facilities and winterizing the camp for use throughout the year. BridgeMont has become a place where many churches choose to retreat for a weekend; where they join the camp family, enjoy great food, fellowship and fun.

As the community around BridgeMont has grown, so has the vision. Day camp has been added to the program to reach those at our back door with the Gospel. Through coaching at the local high school and area youth soccer leagues, hosting teacher appreciation lunches, youth sleep-overs and more, BridgeMont is impacting its community. We eagerly wait to see where God leads us.
